This week has been one of the most challenging weeks in the travel industry with the sad loss of Thomas Cook and so many people losing their holidays.
In the light of the current situation it is so important to understand what you are buying and how you are protected for your next trip away. When I first started in this industry 26 years ago, we were reassured that if you saw the ABTA logo you were protected.
Nowadays with so many avenues and ways to book your holiday the level of protection is vastly different. This can all sound very complicated but if you book through a travel agent, they will be able to explain the cover you have and how your holiday is protected.
It is important to know that when you book individual components for example, a flight with a low-cost carrier then your accommodation with another provider, your holiday is not protected should there be an issue. In the last few months alone we have experienced airline strikes, hurricanes and now the loss of Thomas Cook affecting holidays so it is more important than ever to have the right protection.

This week has shown that having an actual person to talk to and help when things go wrong is invaluable, we have taken many calls from holidaymakers who booked online and cannot get through to anyone to offer assistance. Please think wisely when spending your hard-earned money.
